Santa Cruz to Shine: City Prepares for Christmas Miracle
Santa Cruz will decorate its three main pedestrian avenues with Christmas lights for the first time and install the largest Christmas tree in Spain, aiming to become the Christmas capital of the Canary Islands.
For the first time, Christmas lights will illuminate three major pedestrian avenues in the capital of Chicharrera: Manuel Hermoso Rojas, Benito Pérez Armas, and Príncipes de España.
The Santa Cruz city authorities have already begun preparations for the festive lighting. Municipal workers are actively installing the necessary equipment. Most of the lines and electrical panels that will power all the illumination are already ready. Next, they will begin hanging garlands, decorations, and installing light figures to create a festive atmosphere in the city.
The mayor of the city, José Manuel Bermúdez, noted: "Santa Cruz has been striving to become the Christmas capital of the Canary Islands for many years. Therefore, we are starting preparations in advance to ensure that everything is ready on time and to a high standard. Christmas lighting not only makes the city more beautiful but also promotes trade, the hotel business, and tourism."
The Councilor for Public Services, Carlos Tarife, added: "This year, for the first time, we will decorate the city's main pedestrian boulevards. Now, the avenues of Manuel Hermoso Rojas, Benito Pérez Armas, and Príncipes de España will be illuminated, creating a single festive space together with La Rambla and Avenida Marítima."
Tarife also assured that the work is being carried out in stages and in compliance with all technical requirements to minimize inconvenience to residents and to complete everything before the official opening of the celebrations.
In addition to installing the lights, this year the city plans to install the largest Christmas tree in Spain to attract tourists. The 50-meter structure will be located on the lake in Plaza de España. To avoid electrical problems, the water from the lake will have to be drained.
The Christmas tree will be rented from a specialized company for 100,000 euros. "This will be the main highlight of Christmas, which will even make the mayor of Vigo come to Santa Cruz to see the best lighting in the country," Tarife concluded.
