Santa Cruz de Tenerife to Close Waterfront for Car-Free Day Sunday

Santa Cruz de Tenerife is set to transform its city center this Sunday, September 20, to celebrate the end of European Mobility Week. To encourage residents to rethink how they travel, the City Council will close Avenida Francisco La Roche to private cars from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., turning the space over to community activities.

Because of the closure, bus operator Titsa will adjust several routes (909, 910, 921, 945, 946, and 947) between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Buses will be diverted through the port area via Calle Vicente Álvarez Pedreira and Avenida de la Constitución. During this time, the buses will not make any stops, and the following boarding points will be closed: Hacienda, Estación Marítima, Edificio Múltiples I, Avenida de Anaga, Plaza de España, and Plaza de Europa (codes 9314, 9316, 9317, 9346, 9167, 9168, 9347, and 9210).

The road will be closed from the Hacienda roundabout to the intersection with Rambla de Santa Cruz. Between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., the area will host a variety of events, including cycling circuits, pickleball and hockey games, and workshops on reducing vehicle emissions. Titsa will also showcase its fleet, featuring double-decker buses and tricycles designed for people with reduced mobility.

This "Car-Free Day" marks the end of a week-long program focused on road safety and smart transport. By reclaiming the waterfront for pedestrians, the city hopes to highlight the importance of sustainable travel in a busy metropolitan area.
