Santa Cruz de Tenerife Tightens Regulations on Airsoft and Compressed Air Devices
The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council is enforcing stricter registration requirements for airsoft and compressed air devices to ensure public safety and prevent confusion with real firearms.
The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council is tightening rules on airsoft guns and compressed air devices following the recent seizure of several unregistered units. Because these recreational items often look identical to real firearms, the city is reminding owners that they must register them to prevent public safety incidents.
Under Spanish law, these items are classified as "Category 4" weapons, meaning owners must hold a weapons card issued by local authorities. You must apply for this card immediately after purchasing a device. To complete the process, you need to provide your ID, the original purchase invoice (including the serial number), a criminal record certificate, and a medical report. Residents aged 14 and older can apply, though minors require permission from a parent or guardian.
Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez stressed that because these devices look so realistic, owners must exercise extreme caution. Gladis de León, the Councilor for Citizen Security, added that these items can only be transported directly between the place of purchase and the owner's home, or to authorized sporting venues. To make compliance easier, the City Council has moved the registration process online, allowing residents to apply through the municipal electronic office.
Local authorities are emphasizing these rules to prevent public confusion and ensure safety. By following these regulations, owners can avoid fines and ensure these replicas are used only in the appropriate recreational or sporting settings.
