Fire and heatwave warning in the Canary Islands: safety measures and recommendations.
The Santa Cruz City Council and the Canary Islands Government are warning of high temperatures and fire risk, activating emergency plans and introducing restrictions to prevent fires.
The Santa Cruz City Council has warned of high temperatures and the risk of fire in the Canary Islands and urged caution ahead of the expected hot days.
The Government of the Canary Islands has already announced a possible risk of fire and high temperatures in Tenerife from 08:00 to 10:00 today. This has led to the activation of the Island Emergency Plan (PEIN) and the introduction of measures to prevent fires on the island.
One of the measures is the closure of barbecues in Las Mesas Park until the forest fire risk warning is over. The main goal is to ensure the safety of citizens and avoid fires, especially in natural and mountainous areas. The public is advised to refrain from activities in open areas during the hottest hours and to follow official recommendations.
Smoking is also prohibited in recreational areas, camping areas, camps, roads, entertainment venues, and other public places. Pyrotechnic displays and the use of machinery and tools that could cause sparks are also prohibited.
The warnings about the risk of fire and high temperatures are related to the predicted meteorological conditions for the coming days, when a prolonged period of heat is expected with temperatures above 37 degrees, low humidity, and winds from the east and south in forest areas.
Due to rising temperatures and an expected increase in the number of visitors to the coast, it is recommended to use public transport to travel to the beaches, especially Las Teresitas. You should also check the occupancy level of the parking lots via the link. Dynamic displays at the entrance to the beach are aimed at reducing queues in the bathing area and operate on weekends and public holidays in good weather.
