The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has officially launched the 2027 Carnival, themed "Eternal Rome," by finalizing the performance schedule for the festival's upcoming competitions and street celebrations.

The countdown to the 2027 Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival has officially begun. The City Council held a draw this Wednesday at Espacio Cajasiete to determine the performance schedule for the groups competing in this year’s festival, which will be themed around the history and aesthetics of classical Rome.

The event began with a moment of silence to honor CD Tenerife footballer Jesús de Miguel. Following this, Festivals Councilor Javier Caraballero outlined the official timeline. The festivities kick off with an opening gala on January 22, followed by the first musical performances on January 23, starting with the group Teiderife on a stage designed by Juan Sebastián Domínguez.

The carnival, a vital cultural and economic driver for the city, has a packed schedule. The adult murgas will hold four qualifying rounds from February 1 to 4, leading up to the grand final on Saturday, February 6. Children’s murgas, comparsas, and rondallas also have their performance slots confirmed, with the street celebrations set to take place between February 19 and 28.

This draw is more than just a logistical step; it marks the start of a busy season for the thousands of people involved in the festival. As participants prepare their "Eternal Rome" costumes and repertoires, the transparent selection process ensures fairness for a competition that remains one of Spain’s most significant cultural events, blending deep-rooted tradition with professional artistry.
