Santa Cruz de Tenerife’s El Toscal Neighborhood Announces Annual Patron Saint Festivities
Santa Cruz de Tenerife’s historic El Toscal neighborhood will host its annual patron saint festivities from September 25th to 30th, featuring a diverse program that blends modern youth activities with traditional cultural heritage.
El Toscal, one of Santa Cruz de Tenerife’s most iconic neighborhoods, is getting ready for its annual patron saint festivities from September 25th to 30th. According to the Luz y Vida Neighborhood Association, this year's program aims to bridge the gap between younger residents and the area’s deep-rooted traditions, with support from the Centro-Ifara District and SantaCruz.Rec.
The event is designed to bring different generations together. The celebrations kick off this Friday with the "Pisaca Joven Fest," featuring K-pop competitions, gaming zones, and activities from the Distrito Joven project. On Saturday the 26th, the Pisaca courts will host a full day of entertainment, ranging from children’s shows like Planeta Komba to a diverse musical lineup featuring reggae, indie, and local artists.
The organizers have also made sure to honor the neighborhood's history. On Tuesday the 29th, Casa Pisaca will host "A Neighbor & A Story," an event featuring Agustín Espinosa García, where residents will share memories of the area’s past. Preserving these stories is vital for historic districts like El Toscal, which often face the challenges of urban growth and changing demographics.
The festivities conclude on Wednesday the 30th with the 11th Pilgrimage of the Christ of Paso Alto. The procession begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Cruz de San Agustín, moving through Santiago and San Isidro streets before ending at the Almeyda Military Historical Museum. The event will wrap up with a traditional Canarian mass performed by the groups Achamán and Jóvenes Sabandeños, marking the end of a six-day celebration dedicated to honoring both the spirit and the heritage of El Toscal.
