Santa Cruz de Tenerife Revitalizes City Streets with Urban Improvements and Community Events

Santa Cruz de Tenerife is working to breathe new life into its city streets through a series of aesthetic and social improvements. As part of a global trend toward "tactical urbanism," the City Council has installed a colorful umbrella canopy on Calle Santiago near Casa Pisaca. This temporary feature is designed to make the neighborhood more inviting and pleasant for residents.

This effort coincides with the reopening of Calle de La Rosa, which has undergone three years of extensive renovations. To celebrate the street’s return as a community hub, the city is hosting the "Vive La Rosa" event on Saturday, September 12, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The event aims to bring together local businesses, families, and young people to enjoy the newly improved space.

The street will be divided into several themed zones to offer a variety of activities:

• La Luna to Santa Rosalía: A photo booth area.
• Santa Rosalía to Santa Clara: Live music and activities to support local shops.
• Santa Clara to San Francisco Javier: A dedicated space for children’s workshops and games.
• San Francisco Javier intersection: Dance performances by the Genaro Arteaga and Wonder Dance Center academies from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
• San Francisco Javier to number 43: A sports zone featuring pickleball, hockey, and minigolf, supported by the municipal sports team.
• Number 43 to San Martín: A youth-focused area offering creative workshops, role-playing games, wellness activities, and a photography exhibit.

Additional musical performances will take place between El Saludo and San Isidro, helping to establish Calle de La Rosa as a vibrant center for social life in the district.
