Santa Cruz de Tenerife Reports Improved Bus Punctuality Following Route Overhaul

Santa Cruz de Tenerife’s public transport overhaul, launched on August 3, has led to more reliable bus schedules, according to city officials. Data from the first month of changes across six key routes—904, 908, 912, 914, 915, and 919—shows improved punctuality. However, Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez’s administration is urging caution, noting that August travel patterns are often different from the rest of the year.

Performance data highlights success on lines 914, 904, and 912. Line 914, which introduced a new route connecting Residencial Anaga, Calle de La Rosa, and the Interchange, saw punctuality rise from 82.9% to 91.7% with over 23,500 passengers. Line 904 added more trips and reached 90.9% punctuality, while line 912, which extended its hours into the early morning, achieved 85.9% schedule compliance.

The city also launched line 915, a new direct route between the Interchange and Ofra. It recorded 94.9% punctuality during its first month. Meanwhile, line 908—now a primary route along the Carretera General del Rosario with extended daily service—carried over 130,000 passengers with 90.5% punctuality. Line 919 also saw improvements, with extra weekday trips helping to boost its punctuality to 87.1%.

These changes are part of an ongoing effort to align public transport with the city’s specific mobility needs, which are often complicated by local geography and population density. Mobility Councilor Evelyn Alonso confirmed that the city will continue to monitor these routes closely. These early results will help determine if the extended hours and increased service frequency are effective long-term solutions for reducing traffic congestion in the capital.
