Santa Cruz de Tenerife has opened a new temporary parking area in the La Alegría neighborhood to alleviate congestion and improve road safety in the challenging terrain of the Anaga district.

Managing traffic and parking in areas with challenging terrain, such as the Anaga district in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, is once again a top priority for the local government. The City Council recently announced that it has prepared a vacant municipal plot in the La Alegría neighborhood to serve as a temporary parking area.

The project cost 42,000 euros and aims to ease the long-standing parking shortage in the area, which is often congested due to its proximity to the IES Anaga secondary school. By converting this unused land, the city has added about twenty new parking spaces. Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez stated that the move is designed to reduce traffic jams during peak hours, helping both local residents and the school community.

Gladis de León, head of the district council, is continuing this approach, which mirrors a similar project recently completed in Valleseco. These temporary solutions have become a common strategy for local authorities in the Canary Islands, as building permanent infrastructure in established, densely populated neighborhoods with limited space is often difficult.

Beyond simply adding parking, the initiative is intended to improve road safety by discouraging irregular parking. The City Council hopes this measure will help balance the needs of residents, teachers, and families in a district where urban planning must constantly adapt to difficult geography.
