Santa Cruz de Tenerife Moves to Reopen Key Public Kiosks After Delays

Santa Cruz de Tenerife is moving to reopen two of its most popular public spaces following recent administrative updates. The city is working to resolve long-standing delays regarding the kiosks at Numancia and Plaza del Príncipe.

For the Numancia kiosk on Avenida Veinticinco de Julio, near García Sanabria Park, the City Council has officially awarded the contract to FIL419. As the only bidder, the company will manage the site for the next ten years. According to Heritage Councilor Javier Rivero, the contract includes an annual fee of 13,000 euros, which will take effect once the agreement is signed. A 30-day transition period is now underway for the current operator to hand over the premises.

Meanwhile, the city has resolved the situation at the Plaza del Príncipe kiosk, which had been closed due to a legal dispute. The conflict began when the City Council disqualified two of the three bidding companies—Príncipe Park Tenerife and EloyCaracol—for proposing design changes that violated municipal regulations.

With the appeal from EloyCaracol now dismissed, the Heritage department has resumed the process. The contract is expected to be awarded to the company Strasse Fuyi before the end of the year. This progress coincides with recent efforts to address pest issues in the square, which had been a major concern for local residents and business owners.

These developments highlight the challenges of managing municipal contracts, where strict regulations and legal disputes often cause significant delays. Restoring these services will not only generate revenue for the city but also fulfill the public’s desire to see these central leisure spaces fully operational again.
