The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has launched a €336,146 urgent tender to provide 900 free summer childcare spots, including specialized care for children with functional diversity, to support local families during the school holidays.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has launched an urgent tender for its summer leisure and training program for children. With a budget of 336,146 euros, the initiative aims to help families balance work and childcare during the school holidays.

The program will operate throughout July across eleven centers in the city’s various districts—Anaga, Centro-Ifara, Salud-La Salle, Suroeste, and Ofra-Costa Sur. In total, 900 free spots will be available. The centers will run from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and include meals tailored to specific dietary, religious, or health requirements, as well as all necessary equipment for activities.

The project also prioritizes inclusivity, with 44 spots specifically reserved for children with functional diversity. These places include specialized care and accessibility measures to ensure every child can participate fully. Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez and Social Policies head Charín González emphasized that the program is about more than just childcare; it is designed to foster social cohesion and equal opportunities for all children.

The council is fast-tracking the tender process to ensure the contract is finalized before the school year ends, preventing any gaps in service. These summer programs have become a vital resource for local families, providing a safe, educational environment that allows parents to continue working during the summer months.
