The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has launched the sixth edition of its consumer voucher program, investing over 220,000 euros to support local businesses and help families manage rising costs.

The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has launched the sixth round of its consumer voucher program, designed to help families manage rising costs while boosting local small and medium-sized businesses. Organized by the Development Society and the Federation of Urban Areas of the Canary Islands (FAUCA), the initiative invests over 220,000 euros in public funds, with the goal of generating an estimated 520,000 euros in local economic activity.

Since its start in 2021, the program has successfully generated four million euros for the local economy. This latest edition features a key update: the city council will now cover 40% of the cost of standard vouchers, providing extra savings for families as they navigate back-to-school expenses.

A total of 20,800 vouchers will be issued, split into two categories to encourage spending throughout the week and on weekends. To ensure the vouchers reach all parts of the city, the 16,000 standard vouchers have been initially allocated by district: 7,500 for Centro-Ifara, 4,400 for Salud-La Salle, 2,200 for Suroeste, 1,500 for Ofra-Costa Sur, and 400 for Anaga. The city council has built in flexibility to redistribute these vouchers based on actual demand in each area.

This partnership between the public and private sectors has become a model for other municipalities. Local officials believe the program provides essential support for self-employed workers and small businesses, helping them stay resilient despite seasonal changes in consumer spending.
