Santa Cruz de Tenerife is launching a 13-million-euro modernization of its public transport network on April 6, featuring route adjustments and increased service frequencies to boost ridership and reduce traffic congestion.

Starting Monday, April 6, public transport in Santa Cruz de Tenerife will undergo a major overhaul. Backed by a 13-million-euro budget, the City Council and the mobility department, led by Evelyn Alonso, are launching a strategy to modernize the network. Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez expects these changes—which include updating the bus fleet and adjusting wait times—to attract nearly 37,600 new passengers over the next year.

The restructuring focuses on improving the efficiency of key routes:

  • Line 906: Weekend morning services between Barrio de la Salud and the Interchanger will be increased. However, the route will no longer extend to the Mercado de África to help prevent delays. Passengers are encouraged to use lines 901 and 919 or the stop near El Corte Inglés instead.
  • Line 914: The route will now pass through the Plaza de España tunnel. As a result, the stop at the plaza will be removed, and passengers are advised to use high-frequency services like line 910.
  • Line 910: Connecting the Interchanger to San Andrés and Las Teresitas beach, this route will see expanded night service, with buses running between 10:00 PM and 1:00 AM to accommodate increased travel to the coast.

These adjustments, which also affect several peripheral areas, are based on technical studies designed to better match transport supply with current traffic levels.

As the city works to reduce traffic congestion and encourage the use of public transport over private cars, officials are urging residents to check the new schedules and route maps. Full details are available through official city channels and the Titsa website.
