The Santa Cruz de Tenerife city council has launched a revitalization project for the Rambla and Salamanca business districts, utilizing local feedback and technical audits to enhance the competitiveness of independent retailers.

Revitalizing the business districts of Rambla and Salamanca has become a top priority for the Santa Cruz de Tenerife city council. This initiative, aimed at modernizing the capital’s commercial scene, is part of a broader transformation plan introduced last year. The roadmap for this project was recently shared with over 200 local business owners at a meeting held at Espacio Price.

The project relies on direct feedback, including a census of 600 local businesses and a survey of more than 100 consumers to identify the specific needs of these areas. Carmen Pérez, the local councilor, noted that this data has been essential in ensuring that public policy is shaped by the needs of the local business community.

At the event, attended by Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez and regional Deputy Minister Felipe Afonso El Jaber, 133 businesses were recognized for completing a technical audit. These audits focused on improving window displays, store layouts, and the overall customer experience—all of which the local government views as vital for staying competitive in today’s market.

These districts are central to the city’s retail economy. Mayor Bermúdez explained that the success of this first phase now allows the city to move forward with an Operational Action Plan to solidify these improvements and expand support. By fostering public-private collaboration, the city hopes to help local shops remain competitive against the rise of e-commerce and large retail chains.
