Santa Cruz de Tenerife has launched the "In Movement" initiative to transform local youth centers into dynamic, year-round hubs offering experiential learning, creative workshops, and mental health support for teenagers.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has launched a new initiative to revitalize its youth centers. The project, titled In Movement, aims to transform the Lázaro Siliuto and Mascareño Youth Houses into active, year-round hubs for local teenagers. By combining leisure activities with technical training and emotional support, the city hopes to offer young people more than just a place to pass the time.

Part of the broader Juventud Activa SC program, this initiative moves away from traditional classroom-style learning. Instead, it uses an experiential approach that puts young people in the driver’s seat, encouraging them to lead projects rather than just participate in them. Activities are divided into three rotating themes, covering everything from digital skills and mental well-being to artistic exploration.

Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez emphasized the need to make these public spaces more accessible and social. Charín González, head of the Department of Youth, added that the program—which includes workshops on ceramics, dance, drama, creative writing, and music under the ART LAB banner—is designed to address the specific interests and concerns of today’s youth.

This project comes at a time when mental health and social connection are top priorities for youth policy. By providing a space for collaboration and self-expression, the city hopes to reduce isolation and help young people develop new skills. With weekly sessions planned, the goal is to turn these centers into reliable, supportive environments where teenagers can build community and discover their personal strengths.
