Santa Cruz de Tenerife Launches 'Distrito Joven' Summer Youth Program
Santa Cruz de Tenerife has launched its "Distrito Joven" summer program, offering local youth a diverse range of free educational, technical, and recreational activities designed to foster personal development and community engagement.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has unveiled its "Distrito Joven" (Youth District) summer program, a strategy designed to provide young people with more than just entertainment. Running from July through September, the initiative focuses on personal development by combining technical training, physical activity, and environmental awareness.
The program features over twenty free activities, responding to a high demand for structured social spaces. The schedule includes outdoor adventures—such as trips to Valleseco, Anaga, and Mount Teide—alongside tech-focused workshops in 3D design, digital animation, and video game development. By participating in events like the Tenerife Lan Party, the council aims to encourage the responsible use of technology while staying aligned with the interests of today’s youth.
Beyond skill-building, the program serves to strengthen the local community. Social gatherings at Las Teresitas beach, events at Casa Manresa, and video game tournaments at the Casa de la Juventud Lázaro Siliuto are designed to foster social connection. The summer will conclude with a "Summer Ending" celebration and a trip to Siam Park. Because space is limited, those interested must register in advance through official City Council channels.
From a policy perspective, this summer plan prioritizes healthy leisure as a way to support youth development. By offering a diverse range of activities—from padel and sculpture to environmental education—the city government aims to build teamwork and independence, cementing "Distrito Joven" as a vital part of the capital’s social and educational strategy during the holidays.
