Santa Cruz de Tenerife has launched a professionalized design competition to select the visual identity for its 2027 "Ancient Rome" themed Carnival, featuring a public voting process and financial compensation for finalists.

The search for the visual identity of the 2027 Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival is officially underway. The local council’s Festival department announced that the process to design the aesthetic for the upcoming "Ancient Rome" theme began on Monday, July 29.

The selection process continues a recent trend of combining expert judgment with a public vote. After an initial round of applications, a panel of experts will select five finalists. These candidates will have one month to develop their concepts further, for which they will each receive 1,000 euros. Following this, the public will have one week to vote for their favorite design. The winner will receive a 12,000-euro prize, while the other finalists will keep their initial compensation.

This initiative is part of the City Council’s strategy to professionalize the Carnival’s brand image. By paying the finalists, the council aims to move away from unpaid design competitions and encourage more professionals to participate. This approach is intended to strengthen the graphic identity of an event that serves as a vital economic driver and a key promotional tool for the island.

Those interested in participating must submit their registration and technical documentation through the City Council’s online portal. The full rules, including technical requirements and deadlines for capturing the "Eternal Rome" theme, are now available on the official Carnival website.
