Santa Cruz de Tenerife has launched a multi-year botanical outreach program featuring free guided tours to educate the public on the ecological importance of the city's urban trees.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife has launched a new botanical outreach program running through 2026. Organized by the City Council and the Santa Cruz Sostenible Foundation, with support from the Moeve Foundation, the initiative aims to showcase the ecological and historical value of the city’s most significant trees while promoting environmental education.

Running from April to December, the program is designed to help residents and visitors understand how urban trees combat climate change, regulate city temperatures, and improve air quality. This project is part of a broader effort to "renaturalize" the city, a growing trend in European urban planning that focuses on restoring balance to built-up areas.

Guided tours will take place on the last Saturday of each month from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., visiting key spots like García Sanabria Park, La Granja Park, and the city center. There will also be special events on May 1 and 3 to coincide with the May Festivities.

The 2025 schedule is as follows:

  • April 25: García Sanabria Park
  • May 23: City center
  • June 27: La Granja Park
  • July 25: García Sanabria Park
  • August 29: City center
  • September 26: La Granja Park
  • October 24: García Sanabria Park
  • November 28: City center
  • December 19: La Granja Park

Participation is free, but you must register in advance through the Santa Cruz Sostenible Foundation. For more information, please email fundacion@santacruzdetenerife.es or call 659 08 46 83.
