Santa Cruz de Tenerife Launches Back-to-School Support Package for Families

Students returning to school in Santa Cruz de Tenerife this year will benefit from a strengthened municipal support system. To help families manage the rising costs of the new academic year, the City Council has launched a package of measures that includes both direct financial aid and improvements to school facilities.

The core of this support is a 50-euro voucher program for school supplies. Managed through a partnership between the city, the Bancoteide organization, and the DinoSol Foundation, these funds are sourced from a reinvestment clause in the city’s social assistance card program. To ensure the aid reaches those who need it most, families do not need to apply; instead, the vouchers will be distributed through local social organizations that work closely with the city.

The City Council is also prioritizing family life and school safety. Starting September 9, the city will launch an early childcare service, backed by a 420,000-euro budget, to help parents balance their work schedules with the school calendar.

Additionally, the city has spent over one million euros this year on summer maintenance projects to keep public schools safe and functional. Key improvements include new metalwork at CEIP Julián Rojas de Vera and CEIP Miguel Pintor, roof waterproofing at CEIP Salamanca, new pergolas at CEIP Ágora, and renovated restrooms at the Chapatal and Los Verodes schools.

These projects are part of a broader annual maintenance budget of nearly four million euros. This funding covers essential services such as cleaning, electricity, security, and fire protection, ensuring that school facilities remain in good condition despite daily wear and tear.
