Santa Cruz de Tenerife has launched a four-million-euro infrastructure project to modernize 50 streets through extensive resurfacing, sidewalk widening, and accessibility improvements.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife is launching a major infrastructure project to repair its aging road network. The City Council has announced a comprehensive plan to invest nearly four million euros this year to modernize 50 streets, focusing on resurfacing roads and improving pedestrian areas.

Led by the Public Services department, this urban renewal strategy goes beyond simple paving. The project aims to improve how people move around the city by widening sidewalks and relocating crosswalks and bus stops. Key areas for this transformation include the Rambla, Méndez Núñez Street, and the Cruz del Señor neighborhood, where new street furniture and shading will be added to make walking more comfortable.

The majority of the funding—2.3 million euros—is dedicated to major roads, including the avenues of Bélgica, José Martí, Constitución, and Benito Pérez Armas. This budget also covers work on several other streets, such as Domingo Salazar Cologán, Fragata Danmark, Góngora, Simón Bolívar, and the access road to Valleseco.

An additional 1.2 million euros has been set aside for routine maintenance, which will fund sidewalk repairs on streets like Eladio Roca Salazar, the Bouza alley, and several others, including the intersection of José Melo and Corviniano. Furthermore, one million euros is reserved for upcoming work on Puerto Escondido, Puerta Canseco, La Rosa, and Santiago streets.

City officials noted that this investment is long overdue, as much of the city’s infrastructure has not seen significant repairs since the late 1980s. The plan also includes upgrades for Ramón Trujillo Torres, Río Genil, Río Jarama, Río Tambre, Granadilla, Ukola, and Tomé Cano, ensuring the city’s streets meet modern standards for safety and accessibility.
