Santa Cruz de Tenerife Launches €4.38 Million Sewer Upgrade in Valleseco
Santa Cruz de Tenerife and the Cabildo have agreed to equally fund a €4.38 million sewer and storm drainage upgrade in Valleseco to modernize the neighborhood's aging infrastructure.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife is moving forward with the next phase of its sewer system upgrade in Valleseco. The project has been included in the 2027-2030 Island Plan for Cooperation on Municipal Works and Services, with the City Council and the Cabildo de Tenerife agreeing to split the estimated €4.38 million cost equally.
This work builds on improvements made between 2018 and 2021, focusing on replacing aging concrete pipes that have worn down over time. The plan involves upgrading approximately 3,400 meters of the network. A key part of the project is installing a separate storm drainage system, which is currently missing in much of the neighborhood. This addition is essential for managing heavy rainfall and improving overall drainage.
The project is part of a broader effort by the local government to address long-standing gaps in basic public services. The new sanitation system will connect to the existing coastal collector, while the storm drainage network will be activated once the necessary environmental permits for water discharge are secured.
Construction will take place on public land, which will lead to temporary traffic disruptions in the area. The City Council is currently seeking the required approvals from the Urban Planning and Heritage departments. This project was selected because it aligns with the Island Plan’s goals of improving water management and ensuring that urban infrastructure can safely support the growing population.
