Santa Cruz de Tenerife Launches 2027 Carnival Season With "Ancient Rome" Theme
Santa Cruz de Tenerife will officially launch its "Ancient Rome"-themed 2027 Carnival season this Friday at Plaza del Príncipe with the unveiling of the festival's official poster.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife is getting ready to launch its 2027 Carnival season, with this year’s theme set to be "Ancient Rome." The official kickoff event will take place this Friday, October 16, at 8:30 p.m. in the Plaza del Príncipe, marking the start of the countdown to the opening gala on January 22.
The highlight of the evening will be the unveiling of the official Carnival poster. The winning design was selected from 41 entries through a combination of expert jury evaluations and a public online vote. The five finalists—Ayoze Felipe, Eduardo Puyol, Juliana Serrano, Lucía Casanova, and Nareme Melián—will be waiting to hear the final result at the event, which celebrates the festival’s status as an event of International Tourist Interest.
Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez and Councilor for Festivals Javier Caraballero have highlighted the importance of this event in bringing the community together and boosting local culture. By choosing "Eternal Rome" as the theme, organizers hope to capture the spirit of the festival’s early years and continue their strategy of keeping the Carnival spirit alive throughout the year, rather than just during the winter months.
The celebration will feature live music from Puerto Rican artist Tonny Tun Tun and the group Maquinaria Band. Admission to the event is free, cementing the Plaza del Príncipe as the heart of the festivities before the official competitions and galas begin.
