Santa Cruz de Tenerife Launches 2027 Carnival Preparations with Roman-Themed Poster Reveal
Santa Cruz de Tenerife will officially launch the countdown to its 2027 "Eternal Rome" Carnival on October 16 at Plaza del Príncipe with the unveiling of the event's official poster.
The countdown to the 2027 Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival officially begins on October 16. The City Council has chosen the historic Plaza del Príncipe for the launch, aiming to restore the square as a central hub for pre-carnival festivities.
The highlight of the event will be the reveal of the official poster for the 2027 edition, which is themed "Eternal Rome: The Empire of Carnival." The winning design was chosen from 41 entries; the creator will receive a 12,000-euro prize, while the four other finalists have each been awarded 1,000 euros. The public can still vote for their favorite design on the official website until October 12, and all five finalists will attend the unveiling ceremony.
Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez and the Festivals department, led by Javier Caraballero, hope this early announcement will build excitement well before the official program kicks off on January 22, 2027. To celebrate the launch, the evening will feature live music from Puerto Rican artist Tonny Tun Tun and the Maquinaria Band.
This event is part of a broader strategy by the City Council to revitalize the city’s cultural life and extend the social and economic benefits of the Carnival beyond its traditional dates. By hosting events in historically significant locations like the Plaza del Príncipe, the city aims to keep the carnival spirit alive throughout the year, centered around the upcoming Roman theme.
