The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has launched a €2.5 million, six-month project to resurface 15 major streets to enhance road safety and infrastructure efficiency.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has approved an ambitious road resurfacing project to improve 15 major streets over the next six months. With a budget of over 2.5 million euros, the initiative aims to repair wear and tear caused by heavy traffic and weather, ensuring safer roads for the city.

Work is scheduled to begin in early June. To minimize disruption to daily traffic, the project will be carried out in stages. The list of streets includes several high-traffic areas, such as Avenidas José Martí, Francisco La Roche, San Sebastián, Benito Pérez Armas, and Islas Canarias. Other locations include Acceso Valleseco, Eladio Roca y Salazar, Juan Rumeu García, Fragata Danmark, Simón Bolívar, Domingo Salazar Cologan, Puerta Canseco, Lope de Vega, the José Zárate y Penichet and Gáldar axis, and República de Honduras.

Local officials describe the investment as part of a broader strategy to modernize public services and improve traffic flow. Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez emphasized that the project is focused on resident well-being, while Public Services head Carlos Tarife noted that the streets were selected based on both traffic data and long-standing requests from local neighborhoods.

Beyond improving the city’s appearance, these repairs are essential for maintaining public infrastructure. Regular maintenance helps lower long-term costs and reduces the risk of accidents. The City Council has promised to provide advance notice of any road closures or detours, ensuring that proper signage and safety measures are in place throughout the project.
