Santa Cruz de Tenerife Invests Over €350,000 in Urban Housing Regeneration

The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council is investing an additional 350,970 euros into its municipal housing company to help fund urban regeneration projects. This funding is a key part of the city’s strategy to utilize European "Next Generation" recovery funds, specifically to support the residential rehabilitation program planned for the Los Gladiolos neighborhood.

This investment is about more than just money; it is part of a long-term effort to repair aging public housing. Renovating buildings in densely populated, older areas—such as Los Gladiolos, Añaza, La Salud, and García Escámez—remains one of the city’s most difficult urban planning challenges.

Alongside this project, the council is also working on other direct improvements. In the García Escámez neighborhood, for example, 164,000 euros is being spent on structural repairs for nine buildings. This work includes fixing roofs and facades, replacing old plumbing to stop dampness, and improving building entrances.

These projects are essential for updating residential infrastructure that has deteriorated over time. By successfully securing and directing European funds into these areas, the City Council is working to both preserve its housing stock and improve the quality of life for residents in these historic neighborhoods.
