Santa Cruz de Tenerife Hosts Weekend of Patron Saint Festivities and Charity Race

The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has announced a weekend of community spirit and fitness in the city’s Southwest district. From Friday, September 4, to Sunday, September 6, the El Sobradillo neighborhood will celebrate its patron saint festivities in honor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, an event that has become a vital social hub for the area.

The festivities, held at the plaza on Tordo Street, offer a mix of family entertainment and religious services. Music will be a highlight of the weekend, with the Los Kadetes Orchestra performing on Friday at 10:30 p.m. On Saturday, following an afternoon mass and procession, the Acapulco Orchestra and the group Pa Ti will take the stage. The celebrations conclude on Sunday with a noon service, followed by an evening performance at 6:30 p.m. featuring the group Atlantic and Dany García.

Alongside the festivities, the district will host the 13th annual 'Lolo Dorta' Charity Race this Sunday. Starting at 9:00 a.m. on Columbrete Street, the six-kilometer route will pass through Santa María del Mar, Los Alisios, and La Estrella Park. The local council has praised the race for its focus on both physical health and charitable giving, which remains a core part of the district's identity.

These events play a key role in strengthening community ties within the city’s peripheral neighborhoods. Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez and District Councilor Javier Rivero have both noted that the active involvement of local neighborhood groups is essential to the success of these celebrations. By blending tradition with sports, the city aims to ensure that neighborhood life remains a central part of the broader municipal calendar.
