Santa Cruz de Tenerife is hosting the Liga Iberdrola promotion playoffs from April 23 to 26, where six teams will compete at the Quico Cabrera pavilion for two spots in Spain's top women's volleyball division.

This weekend, Santa Cruz de Tenerife becomes the heart of Spanish women’s volleyball as it hosts the promotion playoffs for the Liga Iberdrola. Six teams will gather at the Quico Cabrera pavilion from April 23 to 26, all fighting for the two available spots in the top national division.

The tournament features a strong local presence, with Cuesta Piedra, Aguere, and Élite Vóley representing the region alongside Barça, Leganés, and Guía de Gran Canaria. The competition begins with a group stage, followed by knockout rounds that lead to the final on Sunday at 12:00 p.m., where the two teams earning promotion will be decided.

The Santa Cruz City Council is encouraging fans to attend by offering free admission. The Department of Sports noted that the city is well-prepared to host the event, following the successful validation of its facilities during the recent Queen’s Cup. Meanwhile, the Canary Islands Volleyball Federation highlighted that this tournament is the culmination of years of dedicated work in local youth development.

For the host team, Club Voleibol Santa Cruz Cuesta Piedra, the event is the highlight of a challenging season. While the team acknowledges the pressure of playing at home, they remain focused on their goal of reaching the top flight. The official presentation of the tournament, attended by local officials and sponsors, underscored the strong community and institutional support behind these clubs.

Beyond deciding which teams will advance, the tournament serves as a major test for the island’s sports infrastructure. With a full schedule of matches—including the third-place playoff—the weekend will ultimately shape the lineup for the next Liga Iberdrola season.
