Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival Appoints Juan Sebastián Domínguez as New Artistic Director

The Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival is shaking up its artistic direction for the upcoming festival. The City Council has officially appointed Juan Sebastián Domínguez to lead the event’s scenography, signaling a move toward bringing in professionals with extensive experience in large-scale spectacles and national television.

Domínguez, a graduate of Madrid’s Royal School of Dramatic Art with additional training in France and at the Center for Performing Arts Technology, was chosen to help elevate the festival’s international profile. His diverse background includes designing stage shows for artists like Lola Índigo and serving as art director for popular TV shows such as Got Talent, The Dancer, and Idol Kids. He has also worked with the National Dramatic Center, the Max Awards, Benidorm Fest, and Spain’s 2024 Eurovision delegation.

Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez stated that the appointment is part of a strategy to bring the Carnival’s aesthetic in line with international production standards, noting Domínguez’s talent for blending artistic vision with large-scale staging. Javier Caraballero, the Councilor for Festivities, highlighted the significance of the move, noting the deep cultural connection between the carnival traditions of Cádiz and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Domínguez says he is committed to the project and plans to focus his efforts on ensuring the performers remain the center of attention on stage. By bringing in this fresh, professional perspective, the Santa Cruz Carnival aims to reinvent itself and meet the demands of the modern entertainment industry.
