Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival Announces Five Finalists for 2027 Poster Design
The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has announced five finalists for the 2027 Carnival visual identity competition, which centers on the theme "Eternal Rome" and features a public voting process to select the winning design.
The search for the official visual identity of the 2027 Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival has reached its final stage. The City Council has announced the five finalists selected from 41 entries submitted to the Autonomous Organization for Festivals and Recreational Activities (OAFAR). This high level of participation highlights the growing interest in the competition, which this year centers on the theme "Eternal Rome: The Empire of Carnival."
The five artists selected are Lucía Casanova, Felipe Gómez, Nareme Melián, Eduardo Puyol, and Juliana Serrano. Each finalist has received 1,000 euros and now has 30 days to finalize their designs, ensuring they meet the technical requirements for such a major event.
Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez aims to move beyond simple poster design, seeking a unified graphic style that provides visual consistency across all Carnival media and venues. To support this professional approach, Festival Councilor Javier Caraballero has increased the final prize to 12,000 euros, a move intended to honor the work of local creators and their role in the city’s cultural heritage.
A technical committee, led by Caraballero and secretary María José Gómez Padilla, oversaw the initial selection. Once the finalists submit their completed work, the public will have the final say through an online vote. The winning design will be unveiled at the inaugural gala on January 22, 2027. This hybrid process, which balances expert evaluation with public input, has become a standard approach for major Spanish events to ensure both artistic quality and strong community support.
