Santa Cruz de Tenerife Boosts Smart City Status with SC Mejora App Update
Santa Cruz de Tenerife has significantly advanced its smart city initiative following the successful relaunch of the SC Mejora platform, which has facilitated over 165,000 citizen interactions and streamlined local service management.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife has reached a milestone in its digital transformation with the recent update of the SC Mejora platform. According to the City Council, the tool has become a vital two-way communication channel between the local government and the public. This upgrade is part of a broader move toward "smart city" status, where data sharing and active citizen involvement help the city manage its resources more effectively.
The results of the update are clear: since its relaunch in late March, the app has been downloaded over 3,200 times and has recorded more than 165,250 interactions. With 90% of users being local residents and an average of 63 new downloads every day, it is evident that citizens are increasingly choosing mobile technology to handle their daily needs.
A key feature of the platform is its ability to report public road issues. So far, 4,745 reports have been processed, covering everything from bulky waste removal and pavement repairs to street cleaning, abandoned vehicles, and park maintenance. The system works through a collaborative network of 34 external companies, which helps the city respond faster and maintain higher service standards.
Beyond reporting issues, the app now offers tools for urban mobility. Users can view real-time traffic cameras, check parking availability at Las Teresitas beach, and locate essential services like electric vehicle charging stations, bus stops, and loading zones.
Under the leadership of Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez, the City Council plans to expand the app further, aiming to make it a one-stop shop for all administrative needs. In the coming weeks, the city will add interactive maps showing the locations of sports facilities, playgrounds, and pet-friendly areas. These will join existing features like the pharmacy locator and waste container map, reinforcing the city’s commitment to a more transparent, accessible government that keeps citizens connected to their urban environment.
