Santa Cruz de Tenerife Begins New Phase of Avenida Benito Pérez Armas Renovation
Santa Cruz de Tenerife has entered the next phase of its €494,000 renovation of Avenida Benito Pérez Armas, with nighttime construction scheduled to minimize traffic disruption.
The renovation of Avenida Benito Pérez Armas in Santa Cruz de Tenerife has entered a new phase, according to the city council. Part of the "Urban Impulse" strategy, this €494,000 project aims to upgrade one of the city’s busiest roads.
With the initial work on the uphill side now complete, crews are moving to the downhill lane. To minimize disruption to traffic and local businesses, the Public Services department has scheduled work for nighttime hours, from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. During these times, parking will be suspended and the affected sections of the road will be closed.
City officials emphasize that these improvements are essential for road safety and public space functionality. The project is a key part of a long-term plan, with over €100 million allocated to modernize road infrastructure across the city’s districts by 2030.
Current work is focused on the stretch between Avenida Islas Canarias and Pío Baroja Street, with a final phase planned to reach Avenida Reyes Católicos. To manage traffic, the Mobility department has set up detours via Avenida de Bélgica and Avenida Reyes Católicos, and will use partial lane closures at key points. Authorities are asking drivers to exercise caution and follow all temporary signage to ensure the project stays on track to provide a more efficient road network for the capital.
