Santa Cruz de Tenerife Begins Early Christmas Lighting Installation Across All Districts

Santa Cruz de Tenerife has begun its Christmas preparations earlier than usual this year. The city council is working to decorate over 600 locations across the municipality, aiming to spread the festive lights well beyond the traditional city center.

Work began three weeks ago and is happening simultaneously in the city center and the five surrounding districts. Carlos Tarife, the Councilor for Public Services, confirmed that the technical infrastructure, including power networks and control panels, is already in place. Crews are now focusing on decorating trees, with the work on Avenida de Los Majuelos already finished.

This year’s plan focuses on expanding the reach of the decorations. New lighting will be installed in areas such as Rambla Bentacayse in Añaza, Avenida Pedro Schwartz, Rambla García Escámez, and Avenida de Los Majuelos. Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez stated that the goal is to use these lights to boost the local economy and ensure that all neighborhoods feel the festive spirit.

The city plans to begin installing decorations in the Southwest and Ofra-Costa Sur districts before August 15. To keep traffic moving and minimize disruption, crews are working during both the day and night. This early start reflects a growing trend among Spanish cities to improve the urban landscape earlier in the year, helping to support local businesses throughout the final quarter.
