Santa Cruz de Tenerife Begins Construction of New Modern Tourist Information Center
Santa Cruz de Tenerife has commenced construction on a modern, 40,769-euro tourist information center near its transport interchange to enhance visitor services as part of a broader EU-funded urban redevelopment initiative.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife has begun the process of building a new tourist information center near the city’s transport interchange. The Santa Cruz City Council announced that the project, which has a budget of 40,769.30 euros, is expected to take ten months to complete. The goal is to improve how visitors are welcomed at one of the city’s busiest transit hubs.
The project has been awarded to the company Eco Steel Proyectis and features a 30-square-meter building designed by architect Roberto Fuentes. Moving away from traditional designs, the structure will use a modern mix of reinforced concrete, galvanized metal, wood, aluminum, and glass. A standout feature will be an overhead pergola with LED lighting, designed to provide shade while enhancing the look of the area.
Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez stated that the new facility is a vital part of the city’s plan to modernize visitor services by taking advantage of the high volume of daily commuters. Carlos Tarife, the Councilor for Strategic Planning, added that the project reflects the city’s commitment to sustainable and functional urban tourism.
This initiative is part of a larger redevelopment plan funded by the European Next Generation program, aimed at improving the coastline and boosting the city's competitiveness. As part of this broader strategy, the Development Society has launched new "tourism product clubs"—focused on the coast, nature, and local culture—to help local businesses align their services with the city’s heritage and sustainability goals.
