Santa Cruz de Tenerife Awards €435k Contract to Digitize Urban Parking Management
Santa Cruz de Tenerife has awarded a €435,186 contract to Kapsch Trafficcom to implement a digital parking management system designed to reduce traffic congestion and emissions.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife’s city council has officially awarded a €435,186.57 contract to Kapsch Trafficcom Transportation SAU to launch a new digital system for managing urban traffic. The project aims to reduce congestion caused by drivers circling the city center in search of parking.
The six-month project focuses on two main areas: physical signage and a new digital platform. Ten electronic display boards will be installed at major city entrances and key connecting roads. These screens will provide real-time updates on parking availability in both public and private lots, helping drivers plan their routes before reaching busy areas.
In addition to the new signage, the city will launch a mobile app that centralizes parking data from various operators. According to Mobility Councilor Evelyn Alonso, the contract covers the entire process, from supplying the hardware to integrating the software.
This initiative is a key part of Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez’s plan to digitize the city’s mobility services. By making parking information easier to access, the council hopes to reduce traffic-related emissions and move toward a more efficient, data-driven approach to managing the city’s parking infrastructure.
