Santa Cruz de Tenerife Approves €3.7 Million Upgrade for Local Sports Facilities
Santa Cruz de Tenerife has approved a 3.7 million euro investment to renovate the Barranco Grande and Tíncer sports fields with sustainable upgrades and modern infrastructure.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife is set to modernize its sports facilities after the municipal government approved a 3.7 million euro investment to renovate the Barranco Grande and Tíncer fields. The project aims to repair damage caused by heavy use while upgrading the sites with sustainable, energy-efficient technology.
The budget is split almost evenly, with 1.9 million euros allocated to Barranco Grande and 1.8 million euros to Tíncer. Both sites will receive new synthetic turf to replace worn-out surfaces and fix outdated irrigation and drainage systems. A key feature of the upgrade is the installation of solar-paneled pergolas over the spectator stands, which will provide shade while generating clean energy to power the facilities.
The renovation goes beyond the playing fields. At Barranco Grande, the plan includes installing LED lighting, replacing goals and benches, and upgrading perimeter fencing and safety netting. At Tíncer, the focus is on fixing long-standing maintenance issues that have made it difficult to keep the field in good condition.
Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez stated that these improvements are part of a broader commitment to local neighborhoods, where demand for sports facilities is high. The Infrastructure and Sports departments noted that the goal is to improve safety and functionality for local clubs and residents. By prioritizing the renovation of existing sites over building new ones, the city aims to ensure that grassroots sports facilities in the Southwest district remain viable for years to come.
