Santa Cruz de Tenerife has announced nightly traffic restrictions on Avenida Islas Canarias from April 28 to May 2 to facilitate essential preventive maintenance on the city's tram infrastructure.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife is beginning a new phase of preventive maintenance on its urban tram infrastructure to ensure continued safety and reliability. Following recent work near Puente Zurita, this project focuses on keeping the tram tracks in top condition, which is vital for the city’s sustainable transport network.

The Department of Mobility and Universal Accessibility, led by Evelyn Alonso, has announced that traffic restrictions will be in place from this Sunday until May 2. The work will take place on Avenida Islas Canarias, specifically in the Cruz del Señor area. During this time, the left lane heading uphill will be closed between Calle Juan Rumeu García and the Cuesta Piedra ascent.

To minimize disruption, the City Council, Metrotenerife, and the Local Police have scheduled the work to take place exclusively at night, between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM. Outside of these hours, the road will operate as normal. Importantly, tram services and Titsa bus routes will remain unaffected, with all schedules and stops continuing as usual.

This project is part of a larger maintenance plan, with a third phase of repairs scheduled for other parts of the city next month. These works highlight the challenge of maintaining public transport in a busy city, where careful coordination is essential to keep the community moving smoothly.
