The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council will host the "Mayo Joven 2026" festival at Plaza de La Candelaria on May 22, featuring a lineup of local Canarian artists headlined by Bejo.

The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has announced that the upcoming "Mayo Joven 2026" festival will focus on celebrating local talent. The event, which is part of the city’s founding celebrations, will take place on Friday, May 22, at Plaza de La Candelaria, starting at 8:00 p.m.

This free public event will feature a mix of urban music, Latin rhythms, and electronic beats. The lineup is headlined by well-known Canarian artist Bejo, who will be joined by Rayyx, La Gocha, Lass Suga, and several DJs. This selection is part of a broader effort to showcase emerging creators from the Canary Islands, marking a shift in the regional music scene as the islands move from hosting outside acts to exporting their own local talent.

Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez highlighted the festival as a valuable professional opportunity, noting that many local artists launched their careers through similar city-run events. Charín González, head of the Department of Education and Youth, described the festival as a way to provide healthy, alternative entertainment that resonates with younger generations.

Javier Caraballero, head of the Department of Festivals, is overseeing the logistics at Plaza de La Candelaria, where organizers expect hundreds of attendees to gather in a safe environment. Participating artists, including La Gocha, have welcomed the initiative, noting the importance of public platforms for emerging talent. Through this festival, the City Council aims to provide quality entertainment while strengthening the cultural identity of the city's youth.
