Santa Cruz de Tenerife Announces Major Traffic Disruptions for European Triathlon Cup
Santa Cruz de Tenerife will implement significant traffic diversions and public transport rerouting this Sunday, September 22, to accommodate the European Triathlon Cup.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife will see major traffic changes this Sunday, September 22, to accommodate the European Triathlon Cup. The city’s Department of Mobility and Universal Accessibility has announced a large-scale plan to manage the event, which will affect both private vehicles and public transport throughout the morning.
From 7:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the coastal area between the Adán Martín Auditorium and the Monument to the Victory will be closed to traffic. During this time, vehicles will be diverted through the port area. Key streets affected include Avenida Marítima, Plaza de España, Calle Imeldo Serís, Avenida Francisco La Roche, and Avenida de la Constitución. Several smaller roads, including Víctor Zurita Soler, Antonio Perera Reyes, Bravo Murillo, La Marina, and República de Honduras, will also face restrictions.
To prevent congestion, certain turns on Calle La Marina and Avenida Bravo Murillo will be prohibited, though access to public parking near Plaza de España will remain open. Additionally, parking will be banned along the stretch between Avenida Francisco La Roche and the Monument to the Victory starting at 1:00 a.m. on Sunday.
Public transport will also see significant adjustments:
- Bus lines 947, 946, 945, 921, 917, 916, 910, and 909 will be rerouted through the port area. As a result, stops at Avenida Anaga, Edificio Múltiples, Plaza de España, Plaza de Europa, Estación Marítima, and Hacienda will be temporarily suspended.
- Line 920 will be diverted via Tres de Mayo, La Salle, and Méndez Núñez, meaning it will not serve stops at TEA, Cabildo, Alameda, Plaza de Isabel II, La Marina, or Almeida.
These changes are necessary to host the competition while keeping the city moving. Because the coastal road is a vital north-south artery, residents and visitors are encouraged to plan their travel in advance to account for these temporary disruptions.
