Santa Cruz de Tenerife Announces Major Traffic and Transport Disruptions for Binter NightRun
Santa Cruz de Tenerife has implemented a major traffic and public transport plan featuring road closures and bus diversions to accommodate the Binter NightRun this weekend.
The Binter NightRun in Santa Cruz de Tenerife has prompted the city council to launch a major traffic plan that will change how people move around the capital this weekend. According to the Mobility Department, led by Evelyn Alonso, these changes will affect traffic and public transport from today through Sunday, particularly along the waterfront and the lower city.
The plan involves a series of rolling road closures. Starting today at 4:30 p.m., the Avenida Marítima will be restricted between La Marina and Plaza del Cabildo. The biggest impact will occur on Saturday, when major roads—including Avenida Constitución, the Vía Litoral tunnel, the General Serrador bridge, and the area around the Nuestra Señora de África Market—will close from 7:00 p.m. To keep the Anaga area accessible, a temporary port road via the Auditorium will open at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Public transport will see significant changes. Titsa is rerouting about 20 bus lines. Today, lines 909, 910, 914, 916, 921, 945, 946, 947, and 970 will be affected. On Saturday, the changes will extend to interurban services like 014, 026, and 228, which will be diverted via Avenida Tres de Mayo toward La Laguna. Line 914 will be suspended during the race. To encourage participation, Titsa is offering free travel on urban lines (900) from 4:00 p.m. to midnight on Saturday for runners who show their bib number.
Additionally, the Metrotenerife tram service will be interrupted due to the race and scheduled maintenance. A free shuttle bus will run between the Interchange and Cruz del Señor to help passengers. Normal tram service is expected to resume on Monday, April 20. These disruptions highlight the logistical challenges of hosting large events in a coastal capital with limited alternative routes.
