Santa Cruz de Tenerife Announces Major 2027 Carnival Schedule Overhaul
Santa Cruz de Tenerife has rescheduled its 2027 carnival festivities to late February to align with the ecclesiastical calendar and avoid conflicts with the Los Indianos festival.
The 2027 holiday calendar in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is set for a major overhaul, according to Televisión Canaria. Because the dates for Lent change each year, officials have had to adjust the carnival schedule to ensure the festivities remain logistically possible.
The most significant change is the delay of the opening gala, which has been moved from January 8 to January 22. As a result, most public events will now take place in a concentrated period between February 19 and 28. Javier Caraballero, the municipal head of Festivities, confirmed that these changes were necessary to align the carnival with the ecclesiastical calendar.
Despite the shift, Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez confirmed that Tuesday, February 23, will remain a local holiday, ensuring residents have time off during the busiest week of the celebrations.
This new schedule also helps avoid a clash with another major regional event: the Los Indianos festival in Santa Cruz de La Palma, which is set for February 8. By moving the capital’s main festivities to the week of February 22, authorities have successfully separated the two events. This strategic decision is intended to improve inter-island travel, better manage tourism and security resources, and ensure the events run smoothly for both locals and visitors.
