Santa Cruz de Tenerife Announces July 30th Taxi License Exams
Santa Cruz de Tenerife has announced that aptitude tests for new municipal taxi licenses will be held on July 30th to bolster the city's professional transport fleet.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife is updating its professional taxi fleet. Following a recent local government meeting, the City Council announced that the next aptitude tests for municipal taxi licenses will take place on July 30th.
The city views the taxi sector as vital for local connectivity and wants to ensure high service standards. Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez highlighted the need for qualified new drivers, while Councilwoman Gladis de León emphasized that the application process is designed to be transparent and accessible.
To qualify, applicants must hold a Class B driver's license, be physically and mentally fit for the job, and have no record of serious criminal offenses. The city also screens for past transport-related violations—such as issues with working hours or safety regulations—to ensure professional standards are maintained.
The exam consists of a 40-question multiple-choice test. Candidates have 90 minutes to demonstrate their knowledge of local streets, transport laws, municipal taxi ordinances, and basic English.
Once the official notice is published in the Official Gazette of the Province (BOP), applicants will have 15 business days to submit their paperwork. Applications must be filed in person at the Auxiliary Registry office at 40 Tres de Mayo Avenue. This initiative aims to fill current vacancies and improve the efficiency of the city’s public transport network.
