Santa Cruz de Tenerife has launched a 6.4-million-euro initiative to enhance its festive lighting and decorations, aiming to expand displays into peripheral neighborhoods and install a record-breaking Christmas tree in the Plaza de España.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife is preparing for the upcoming Christmas and Carnival seasons with a new plan to boost the city’s visual appeal. According to Diario de Avisos, the City Council has signed a four-year, 6.4-million-euro agreement to improve street decorations. This investment highlights the local government's commitment to supporting local businesses and attracting tourists during the city's busiest months.

The centerpiece of the display will once again be the Plaza de España. Last year, technical issues regarding the lake's weight limits forced the city to scale back the size of its Christmas tree. This year, Public Services head Carlos Tarife aims to build a tree taller than the previous 30-meter version—roughly the height of a ten-story building. Technical teams are currently assessing the site, with final results expected in July.

The city also plans to spread the festive lighting beyond the center. This year, the decorations will reach further into peripheral neighborhoods, specifically focusing on Avenida Los Majuelos and the Rambla de Añaza in the Southwest district. This follows the city's ongoing strategy of expanding displays to areas like the Avenida Marítima, the Cabildo surroundings, and the green corridors of Benito Pérez Armas and Príncipes de España.

The council is now accepting bids from companies to manage the entire process, including the supply, installation, maintenance, and removal of the decorations. The contract emphasizes energy efficiency and sustainability. Companies have until July 1 to submit their proposals, ensuring that everything is ready for the lights to be switched on this November.
