Santa Cruz de Tenerife Adds 41 Parking Spaces in La Salud Neighborhood

Santa Cruz de Tenerife is reorganizing street space in the La Salud neighborhood to create more parking. The City Council’s Department of Mobility and Universal Accessibility has converted the Vía de Cornisa into a one-way street, making room for 41 new parking spots—29 for cars and 12 for motorcycles.

The council describes this as a temporary measure while officials monitor how it affects local traffic. The change addresses two main issues: the high demand for parking in the Salud-La Salle district and the need to prepare for future construction. Specifically, the upcoming demolition of the old San Gerardo church will require a redesign of nearby parking, and the new spaces are expected to help ease congestion during busy periods, such as when carnival groups rehearse at the old market.

Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez and Mobility head Evelyn Alonso stated that the project is a direct response to resident requests and technical studies. This approach mirrors a recent project on Calle Benahoare, which added 24 parking spaces. With these changes, the City Council aims to address the parking shortage caused by the growing number of vehicles in the city while working within the constraints of a densely populated neighborhood.
