Santa Cruz Completes First Major Neighborhood Renovation Project in Añaza

The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has announced a major milestone in the renovation of the city’s peripheral neighborhoods with the completion of work on plot C-14 in Añaza. This is the first project finished under the Programmed Residential Rehabilitation Environments (ERRP) initiative, which uses European Next Generation funds to modernize older residential buildings.

The 2.1 million euro project goes far beyond cosmetic updates. It focused on three main goals for 92 homes: improving energy efficiency, removing architectural barriers, and carrying out necessary structural repairs. These upgrades are vital for bringing older buildings up to modern standards, directly improving the quality of life for residents in these areas.

During a visit to the site, Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez and local housing officials confirmed that savings from the project’s bidding process will be reinvested into the neighborhood. This extra funding will pay for new accessibility features, including an exterior elevator to connect the local square with the Garajonay and Timanfaya blocks, as well as a new ramp for the Taburiente and Cañadas buildings.

A second phase of the project will further modernize the area by installing solar panels in shared spaces, upgrading exterior lighting, and adding security features to home windows. Through these efforts, the City Council aims to make the residential complex more sustainable and accessible, ensuring the buildings remain viable for years to come.
