The Santa Cruz City Council has completed a €477,500 renovation of the Ana Bautista pavilion, featuring upgraded flooring, energy-efficient systems, and improved lighting to support both grassroots and elite athletic training.
Santa Cruz City Council has completed a €477,500 renovation of the Ana Bautista pavilion, a vital hub for both grassroots and elite sports on the island. This project is part of a broader municipal strategy to upgrade public facilities, an area where the city leads the archipelago in per capita investment.
The renovation, carried out by Infraestructuras Deportivas Canarias S.L., involved a complete overhaul of the venue. A major focus was replacing the sports flooring to improve performance and reduce injury risks for gymnasts, who have long used this pavilion as their primary training center.
The project also prioritized energy efficiency. A new self-heating system for hot water was installed to lower the building’s carbon footprint, in line with modern sustainability standards. Additionally, the lighting system was upgraded to improve daily training conditions and meet the technical requirements for broadcasting official competitions.
At the reopening ceremony, Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez, Sports Councilor Alicia Cebrián, and Island Gymnastics Federation president Ana Seco highlighted the pavilion’s role in bringing the community together. Local officials noted that the investment will help the city host national and international events while providing local clubs with a professional-grade facility. With this project complete, the municipal Sports Service has ensured the pavilion meets the safety and technological standards required for modern athletics.
