Santa Cruz de Tenerife authorities have closed vehicle access to Las Gaviotas beach following a rockfall on the road caused by geological instability in the Anaga massif.

Frequent geological instability in the Anaga massif has once again disrupted travel along the Santa Cruz coastline. According to Diario de Avisos, the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has closed vehicle access to Las Gaviotas beach following a rockfall on the road.

This preventive closure is intended to keep the public safe from the risk of further landslides. Municipal technical teams are currently on-site to assess the damage and determine how long it will take to clear the road and reopen the area.

The fragile slopes along this part of the Tenerife coast are a constant challenge for infrastructure maintenance. Because the area is made up of easily eroded volcanic rock, closing this road and its nearby parking lots has become a recurring necessity. These incidents highlight the difficulty of maintaining safe routes in such rugged terrain, where the shifting cliffs often force local authorities to prioritize public safety over beach access.
