The opening weekend of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival drew thousands with highly imaginative and viral costumes, blending traditional favorites with new trends and original group creations that captivated social media.

The first weekend of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival, from Friday the 13th to Sunday the 15th, proved once again how good the festival is at sparking amazing creativity. Early reports from these daytime Carnival events show that thousands of people turned the streets of Tenerife's capital into a giant party. Their imaginative costumes were a huge hit, grabbing everyone's attention and spreading widely across social media.

The mix of old traditions and new social media meant some costumes became incredibly popular very quickly. Some classic favourites, like the Kung Fu Panda costume, were still very much in demand. But there was also a new and exciting trend: costumes inspired by the orchestra Nueva Línea, which were everywhere and became one of the biggest talking points of the opening days.

However, true originality shone brightest in costumes that went beyond simple copying. Group efforts really stood out, such as 'Noche de copas' (Night of Drinks), where friends dressed up as different drinks with impressive detail. Interacting with the crowd was also key for ideas like 'Asador de Pollos Don Perico' (Don Perico's Chicken Rotisserie), which had a surprisingly real-looking cart selling roasted chickens, and the pop-up beauty salon 'Sister Hong Nails', offering mock manicure services from a portable stand.

Costume ideas came from all over, from pop stars like Bad Bunny to funny, specific references like the bush costume from the Super Bowl show. Another popular idea was the "runaway brides," a group in wedding dresses and race numbers, pretending to escape their weddings. These creative displays not only make the Carnival more fun but also show how good the festival is at creating viral moments and staying relevant in today's digital world.
