Santa Cruz Carnival Security Praised After 38 Arrests, Seizures
National Police positively rated the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival's security operation, which included 38 arrests and 147 drug reports, for effectively managing public order through multi-agency coordination.
The security operation for the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival, which ran from mid-January to late February, highlighted the challenges of managing public order at one of Spain's busiest festivals. According to the National Police, the operation, designed to keep hundreds of thousands of attendees safe, involved a significant number of police actions.
Throughout the festival, police made 38 arrests for various crimes. Increased patrols in the busiest areas also led to 147 reports for drug possession or use. Additionally, 11 knives and other banned items were seized, a key preventative measure to avoid altercations in the crowds.
The operation was effective, covering events from the Grand Announcing Parade to night street parties and "Day Carnivals." This success is largely thanks to the coordination between the National Police, the local police in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and the Canarian Police. This kind of teamwork between different agencies is a key part of Spain's security strategy for large events, allowing for a unified and efficient response to any situation.
Despite the number of police actions, the National Police gave the operation a positive overall rating. They praised the generally good behaviour of the public, which helped ensure the festival was safe. The success of such operations isn't just about how many actions are taken, but also about keeping order and harmony at an internationally famous event. This reaffirms that public safety is vital for the reputation of our celebrations.
