Santa Cruz Carnival: Salud–La Salle Celebrates Community, Honors Rodríguez Paz
The Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival celebrates its community spirit this weekend in the Salud–La Salle district with various local events, including a children's murgas festival, the "Martina Carreño" Festival, and a tribute to José Víctor Rodríguez Paz.
The famous Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival is celebrating its community spirit this weekend in the Salud–La Salle district. The Cuesta de Piedra neighborhood will host several events, showing how lively these local celebrations are. There will also be a special tribute to José Víctor Rodríguez Paz. These neighborhood parties are important because they help keep the Carnival popular and ensure everyone can take part, beyond just the main city events.
The main venue for these events will be the neighborhood Sports Center, next to the San Juan Evangelista Church. The fun starts on Friday at 6:30 PM with a festival for children's murgas (Carnival singing groups), featuring many different groups. Later that day, family-friendly musical groups like Nobleza Canaria, Caña Dulce, and Chaxiraxi will perform.
On Saturday, the celebrations continue with the traditional "Martina Carreño" Festival. This festival will feature well-known Carnival groups from Santa Cruz, such as Desbocados, Redoblonas, La Sonora, Chaladas, Irónicos, Guachinquietas, Marchilongas, Triquis Traques, Burlonas, and Diabólicas. DJ Emi Castilla will close the two-day celebration.
Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez stressed how important these cultural events are in different neighborhoods, noting that the Carnival has strong roots in these areas. He also mentioned the lasting impact José Víctor Rodríguez Paz has had on the local community. Meanwhile, Zaida González, the councilwoman for Salud–La Salle, praised the hard work of neighborhood associations and the groups taking part. She invited everyone to join in these days, which help bring people together and celebrate the true spirit of Carnival.
