
Santa Cruz Carnival Crowns Costume Champions
The Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival's Costume Contest showcased the island's artistic talent and rich traditions, drawing over 150 participants and a thousand spectators to witness impressive winning designs.
On Sunday, the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival highlighted its rich traditions and the amazing skill of local artists. The festival's Costume Contest took place at the Exhibition Center, featuring both children's and adult categories. Over 150 contestants participated, attracting more than a thousand spectators.
Journalist María José Cámara hosted the competition, which truly showcased the island's creative talent. Official support for the cultural event was evident, with the Councilor for Festivities, Javier Caraballero, attending alongside Evelyn Alonso, Purificación Dávila, Charín González, and Belén Mesa.
Juan Pedro Sanabria Trujillo won first prize in the individual category for his fantasy costume, 'Ultrachicha 40K'. In the couples category, María Ángeles Afonso García and David Medina Afonso claimed the top award for their creation, 'Ritmos celestiales para el alma latina'. The Murga Los Rebeldes group took first prize for their design, 'Loco Por el Circo'.
A specialized jury, made up of professionals from the textile and art worlds, judged the creations. The jury included Mónica del Cristo Padilla Herrera (fashion designer), Sabina Méndez Luis (costume maker), Marta Palmero (film and TV stylist), Teresa Hernández Quesada (textile technician), José Antonio Vargas Ruiz (headpieces specialist), and Ami Rodríguez (designer).
Another group category saw Los Ilusionistas del Carnaval win first prize for their fantasy, 'Me voy con la música a otra parte porque tengo mi cabeza como un bombo'. In this same category, Las Chiringas came in second with their design 'Chiricantineras'. The high level of participation and the quality of the costumes presented truly confirm the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival as a leading event for artistic expression and festive costume design.
